“In times of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”

— Eric Hoffer (American Philosopher)

OUR APPROACH

The Center for Lifelong Learning is more than a tutoring service. While we provide instruction in specific subjects, The Center addresses all the forces that come to bear on a student’s progress and ability to learn and function in an increasingly complex environment of education and careers.

Research reveals several social and demographic trends that are informing The Center’s methods:

  • The poor mental health of our Gen Z students, most likely attributed to the setbacks of the Covid pandemic and the pressures and distractions of technology, social media, and societal norms.
  • A job market that is rapidly evolving and will continue in ways we can’t even predict long-term.
  • The movement away from the traditional high school-to-college path and the decreasing perceived value of receiving a 4-year on-campus college education.
  • For those looking at college, the changing ways in which admission departments accept students.

What are we doing to proactively meet the challenges facing students now and in the near future?

  • We use MAP Growth testing (academic progress testing) to assess the level and progress of the student, regularly chart goals, and engineer learning to improve academic progress and performance.
  • Based on the student’s level and aptitude, we adjust our approach using adaptive learning and competency-based learning methods.
  • We teach our students executive functioning skills and how to learn, equipping them with the skills to adapt for themselves in the future and to eventually be agile in the job market.

Improving Academic Preformance

The Center for Lifelong Learning assists students in improving their academic performance. Our learning engineers work alongside students, parents, and teachers to help students find academic success as lifelong learners. In addition to helping a student in specific subject areas, the learning engineers focus on executive functioning (i.e., adaptable thinking, planning, self-monitoring, self-control, time management, organization and working memory), study skills, and homework prioritization.  We also provide ACT/SAT individual prep sessions and classes.
